Christa Smith has been promoted to deputy director of the Forsyth County Department of Social Services, effective May 2022.
Smith has worked in the social services field for more than 20 years, spending a large part of her career in child welfare. She’s been with Forsyth County Social Services for almost 10 years in social work supervision and, most recently, as the human services evaluation and planning manager. As she fully transitions into her new role in the coming months, she will work closely with current Deputy Director Liz White, who will retire at the end of the year.
“Christa brings to this position a wealth of knowledge and experience in the social work field and local county government,” said Social Services Director Christine Dowdell. “I want to congratulate Christa and I look forward to working with her in her new role.”
Smith was born and raised in Charlotte. She received a bachelor’s degree from UNC-Charlotte in Social Work and a Master of Public Affairs from UNC-Greensboro. She currently resides in Clemmons with her husband and three sons.
