The inaugural Never Walk Alone event will be held Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.. The event will be held in Corpening Plaza, 237 West 1st Street, Winston-Salem and will conclude with the Walk of Hope around the block.
The Inaugural Never Walk Alone event focuses on Hope, Recovery, Education, and Resources. This family-friendly event is the first of its type in Forsyth County, a joint effort by multiple community stakeholders to promote recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Never Walk Alone aims to educate the community about the disease of addiction, show that people do recover, offer resources to both the addicted and their family/friends, and honor the memories of those who lost their lives to addiction.
The special guest speaker for the event is Judge Glenda Hatchett. Judge Hatchett became renowned nationwide for presiding over the nationally syndicated courtroom series, Judge Hatchett. She recently returned to TV in her new television court series, The Verdict with Judge Hatchett. Judge Hatchett is the founder of The Hatchett Firm, P.C. a national firm located in Atlanta, GA. Similar to her time on the bench as the Chief Presiding Judge of the Fulton County (Atlanta, Georgia) Juvenile Court, Hatchett vows to pursue justice for those who have experienced significant loss from the carelessness of others. With over 30 years of experience as a judge, corporate lawyer, and board member of corporate and nonprofit organizations, Hatchett has established a legacy of excellence in her commitment to improving lives.
The Never Walk Alone event will feature multiple local community leaders, including Mayor Allen Joines, Forsyth County Commissioner Dave Plyler, Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough Jr., Winston-Salem Police Chief Catrina Thompson, Kernersville Police Chief Tim Summers, Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Dresel, and Clerk of Court Susan Frye. Entertainment will be provided by the Simon Says A Capella Group, JCB Dance Company, and LB the Poet. WXII 12 News Reporter DaVonte McKenith will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.
A variety of resources will be on-site to provide information to interested event attendees, including Phoenix Rising of Winston-Salem; Addiction Recovery Care Association; Insight Human Services; Daymark Recovery Services; AA; NA; Al-Anon; Nar-Anon; Parent of Addicted Loved Ones; and many others. Elite Canine’s Comfort Dogs will be at the event as well, offering quiet companionship and support.
