Forsyth County Community Paramedics received the John Canupp Community Outreach Award last month from the Bethesda Center for the Homeless as part of its Heroes for the Homeless awards.
The Forsyth County EMS Community Paramedics program, also known as Mobile Integrated Health, addresses the needs of those who’ve become dependent on Emergency Medical Services by addressing the issues that cause them to frequently call 911. Community paramedics also divert patients from the emergency department when other services may be more appropriate to address their needs, such as behavioral health and substance use services.
The Community Outreach Award honors individuals or organizations that take services that help homeless people out into the communities where they live. It was part of Bethesda Center’s Heroes for the Homeless awards, which was streamed virtually this year, due to COVID-19.
Bethesda Center is the only day shelter in the community and the only local emergency night shelter that serves adult men and women. Bethesda provides shelter and supportive services to homeless individuals, regardless of their personal situations.
