Board members are chosen by joint action of the hospital’s governing body and the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners. The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners has the right to approve 2/3rds of the total number of board members.

Each year, the county advertises for potential candidates and forwards those applications to the hospital for review. The hospital’s Nominating Committee and Novant Health’s Joint Membership Committee review those applications, as well as the applications of others who have expressed an interest in serving. The Joint Membership Committee then submits 2/3rds of the trustee recommendations to the county for approval. Once the county has approved the recommendations, Novant’s board makes the actual appointments in November, effective Jan. 1 of the following year.
