Synopsis and Discussion

Air quality levels are currently hovering around the lower Code YELLOW range this afternoon as oppressively hot and humid conditions have inhibited ozone production despite the abundance of solar radiation. The upper level ridge that has kept the Triad under this multi-day heat dome has begun to weaken, allowing for the development of isolated showers and storms later this afternoon and evening. A weak upper level trough feature is expected to develop over the Carolinas tomorrow and through the weekend, providing enough upper level forcing to trigger isolated showers and storms during peak heating hours (2PM EDT TO SUNSET each day). High temperatures are expected to dip slightly, but high humidity should continue to remain through Sunday. With that said, ozone and particle pollution should continue to hover around the lower Code YELLOW range through Sunday. The Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection is making data available from the county's air monitoring network as a public service. These data represent the hourly data set from all of the sites within this network. Data from Triad sites outside of Forsyth County are collected by the North Carolina Division of Air Quality.
