Synopsis and Discussion

Cool and dry high pressure building in from the northwest has brought early fall season conditions to the Triad, with ample sunlight allowing for air quality levels to gradually rise into the upper Code GREEN range this afternoon. The ridge of high pressure moves over the Triad this evening before moving offshore tomorrow, bringing another cool start to the morning on Thursday. As the ridge moves offshore, southwesterly winds begin to increase as a cold front approaches from the north. Temperatures are expected to be slightly higher tomorrow afternoon, with low dewpoints providing a favorable environment for ozone production that should elevate pollution AQI to the lower Code YELLOW range. The cold front passes through the Triad on Friday, with another dry and sunny day on tap. In addition, light winds should provide support for low Code YELLOW AQI for ozone Friday afternoon. The stationary upper trough over the eastern United States begins to interact with a coastal low pressure system that may provide an increase in cloud cover for Saturday, likely putting an end to Code YELLOW AQI for the Triad. These data represent the hourly data set from all of the sites within this network. Data from Triad sites outside of Forsyth County are collected by the North Carolina Division of Air Quality.
