Pfc. Lonnie Lemons has been employed with the Forsyth County Law Enforcement and Detention Center since February of 1990. On October 1, 2010, Pfc. Lemons was leaving the Detention Center after completing his work day. He was traveling north on Martin Luther King Drive when he observed a white female lying in the road at the intersection of North Cleveland Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Pfc. Lemons stopped to offer assistance to the woman. Bystanders started telling him that the woman had been struck by a vehicle. Upon approaching the woman he noticed that she was not moving and that she was bleeding from around her head. He immediately asked the bystanders if someone had called 911 to which he was told yes. At this time he began to check for respirations and pulse. There were both respirations and pulse, but the person was not responsive at this time. During this time Pfc. Lemons continued to talk with the lady and tell her that help was on the way and also controlled the bystanders that were on scene. The woman began to talk to him, but continued to be motionless. Pfc. Lemons stayed and monitored her condition until Emergency Medical Services Personnel and The Winston Salem Police Department arrived on scene. Pfc. Lemons is commended for his dedicated service and his willingness to help the citizens of Forsyth County.
