A History of Community, Excellence, and Growth
Forsyth County was founded on January 16, 1849 by the North Carolina Legislature. The county was named after Colonel Benjamin Forsyth to honor his service and sacrifice in the War of 1812. Colonel Forsyth was a respected landowner in what was then Stokes County, as well as a distinguished military commander, who died in 1814.
Twenty-one Sheriffs have served the citizens and communities of Forsyth County since 1849. Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough, Jr. was elected to office in 2018. His passionate commitment to serving others, coupled with his diverse career experiences in law enforcement, give him a unique vision for fulfilling the duties of the Office of Sheriff.
