On 02/02/2011, Officer S. Bennett was assigned as Security Officer in 4A Dormitory. At approximately 10:25 an Inmate returned from a medical check up to determine if they were fit to return to housing worker status. The Inmate stated that he was cleared to return to work and he had documentation in his cell. A short while later the Inmate handed him a pink medical permission slip. Upon examination of the form it appeared to have been altered. He then took the form to medical staff who verified that the form had been altered and provided him a photocopy of the original. The Inmate was written up on a disciplinary and moved to maximum security. While conducting a search of the Inmate’s cell he also found three packets of hoarded medication. Two packets were wrapped in toilet paper and hidden in the Inmate’s desk and a third stash of pills was hidden inside a medicine cup wrapped in toilet paper and placed on the shelf above his sink. There were 4 different kinds of medication found and only 1 was prescribed to the inmate and it had been discontinued.

Officer Bennett is commended for taking the time to look into this situation. He recognized that the form had been altered and thus could have prevented potential liability for the Detention Center. He also conducted a thorough search and confiscated prescription medication that was not authorized and thus prevented it from being taken or distributed to other inmates.
