On September 16, 2011, Pfc. Nowlin and Deputy Reeves responded to a medical emergency in the Detention Center. When they arrived they found the inmate to be unresponsive. The officers moved the inmate from the bunk and placed him on the floor.
Pfc. Nowlin checked for a pulse and there was not one present. He began administering CPR. Both Pfc. Nowlin and Deputy Reeves, along with Nurse Ward continued to administer CPR along with using the AED to try and revive the inmate. The officer’s continued to utilize team work and their best efforts to preserve human life until they were relieved by members of the Winston Salem Fire Department.
The Inmate was transported to Baptist Hospital and unfortunately did not survive. Their actions demonstrate outstanding professional achievement in managing the complexities in a detention environment. Their actions exemplify the “one team, one mission” goal of the agency.
