On October 1, 2011, Pfc. Reynolds responded to a radio call from 8 South Housing Unit regarding an officerengaged in a fight with an inmate. Upon arriving he observed Sgt. D. Huttar being beaten in the upper body. Pfc. Reynolds was attempting to enter the doorway when the inmate sprayed him directly in the eyes with O.C. spray.
Even after being sprayed in the eyes, Pfc. Reynolds engaged the inmate and took him to the floor, thus ensuring that Sgt. Huttar could exit the area without being further assaulted and injured. Pfc. Reynolds, even while enduring the pain of being sprayed in the eyes with O.C., did not hesitate to place himself in harm’s way to end what was an attempt on Sgt. Huttar’s life.
