On December 13, 2011, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office transported South Carolina death row inmate, Mikal Mahdi, from a South Carolina prison to Winston Salem to plead guilty to the murder of Christopher Jason Boggs who was shot to death in a store robbery in 2004. After pleading guilty to killing Mr. Boggs, Mahdi was immediately returned to South Carolina. This in custody transport, code named “Operation Tank”, presented an extreme high risk situation for the personnel involved and the public, and required many hours of planning.
Operation Tank was to ensure the defendant, Mahdi, was maintained in maximum secure custody during transport from and back to South Carolina, and in the North Carolina courtroom. Operation Tank occurred without incident and was a success because of skills, dedication and attention to details of the personnel involved. We are extremely proud of the performance of each staff member and they are highly commended for the professional manner in which you carried out your duty.
