On March 1st, 2012, Cpl. Settle was conducting a security tour in 8F dormitory. Once she reached the top mezzanine level, she heard a dull noise from cell 8E-20. She observed an inmate with a brown sheet dangling from the towel rack and he was gasping for air. She immediately called a code orange and requested assistance.

Deputy Jarvis, Deputy Joyce and Detention Officer Gunter arrived at the scene. Detention Officer Gunter held the inmate up while Deputy Jarvis attempted to free him with no success. A second attempt was made by Deputy Jarvis and Deputy Joyce. Tension was released and the sheet was removed from inmate's neck. Due to expedient response a live was saved.
