On April 16, 2012, Deputy B. E. Emilson was assigned to Superior Court during a session of felony probation violation hearings. During one such hearing, a defendant not yet in our custody and without indicating his intentions, suddenly ran for the public exit door in an attempt to escape from an active sentence of imprisonment.
Deputy Emilson anticipated that the defendant would likely try to exit the building by the way he entered and took decisive action to unlock an unused door of the courtroom to cut off the escape of the defendant. As a result, after a short foot pursuit, Deputy Emilson was able to apprehend the fleeing felon by tackling him to the ground.
Despite the sometimes tedious duties of such hearings, Deputy Emilson maintained a state of mental and physical readiness that prevented the escape of a convicted felon.
Deputy Emilson is to be commended for his vigilance to his duties.
