On September 8th, Detention Officers D. Wilson and G. Branch responded to a code orange in the 4 South Housing Area at the LEDC. An inmate had tried to commit suicide. Detention Officer Wilson quickly called the code orange in 4C Dormitory via radio and supported the inmate’s weight to relieve the pressure of the cord that was wrapped around the inmate’s neck. Detention Officer Branch arrived and assisted by using his keys to cut the cord from the inmate’s neck. Both Detention Officer Wilson and Branch assisted the inmate until medical staff arrived.
The medical staff examined the inmate, and no injuries were found. The inmate was assessed and administratively segregated and placed on active suicide watch. These Officers’ dedication to duty and outstanding performance in this situation was exemplary and you are commended for your actions. The alertness, quick response and professional manner with which these officers conducted themselves prevented serious injury or possible loss of life to an inmate in their care and custody.
