On February 5, 2013,Sergeant Buhl was assigned as South Tower Supervisor. At approximately 1412 hours, a call was received concerning an inmate who had refused lunch and dinner trays. Sergeant Buhl initiated a conversation with the inmate to determine why he refused meals. The inmate stated it was for religious reasons. Sergeant Buhl informed him that inmates were free to observe their religious beliefs.
Sergeant Buhl placed the inmate on hunger strike protocol and notified inmate medical due to the comments the inmate had made. A Charge Nurse proceeded to take vital signs on the inmate as well. After the inmate was observed by the charge nurse, a determination was made to seek medical treatment at a local hospital for possible internal injuries. Due to Sergeant Buhl's self-initiation and fast thinking, she helped save a person's life.
Congratulations Sergeant Buhl!
