On October 6th, Deputy A. Hicks was traveling on Highway 52S at the end of her shift when she noticed a child walking on the side of the highway. She stopped to make contact with the child and to keep her out of traffic. Deputy Hicks observed the child had developmental disabilities and obtained custody of the child until additional help arrived.

Winston-Salem Police Department officers had been alerted and were also looking for the young girl. Supervision from this agency were very grateful for Deputy Hicks actions and assistance in locating the missing child. Deputy Hicks went the extra mile in keeping citizens safe and preventing a terrible situation.
