On January 21, 2014 Deputy Chucales was shopping at Gander Mountain while off duty. Deputy Chucales noticed an individual attempting to sell an antique shotgun to the store. Deputy Chucales overheard the Gander Mountain employee appraise the shotgun at approximately $5,000.00, but they refused to purchase the weapon due to not having a substantial market for antique firearms.
Deputy Chucales approached the individual and inquired about the shotgun. During their conversation, the individual mentioned several things that aroused Chucales' suspicion that they were in possession of several stolen firearms. Deputy Chucales arranged contact at a later time to get more information about the firearms and to possibly make a purchase.
Deputy Chucales contacted the FCSO Criminal Investigations Section and relayed the information. Deputy Chucales also participated in an arranged undercover purchase of several stolen firearms that had been stolen during a recent housebreaking. The suspect was arrested initially for an active WFA for probation violation and was also charged with 3 felony counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Deputy Chucales epitomizes the professionalism and vigilance the FCSO strives to maintain in its effort to protect the citizens of Forsyth County.
