On January 5, 2015 while performing his daily duties, Detention Officer Branch observed an inmate attempting to harm himself. Detention Officer Branch immediately called a Code Orange (suicide attempt) in progress and then entered into the inmate’s cell. Once inside the cell, Detention Officer Branch was able to lift the inmate up on a bunk to untie the wool blanket the inmate’s neck. Medical Staff responded and assisted with treatment of the inmate. Mental Health also spoke with the inmate and was advised the incident was not the inmate’s first attempt suicide. Detention Officer Branch’s quick reaction, prevented the inmate from succeeding in trying to take his own life.
On the night of January 2, 2015, while conducting a security tour, Detention Officer Mock observed an inmate attempting to harm himself. Detention Officer Mock quickly notified medical staff and announced a “ Code Orange” via radio and entered the cell to untie the sheet around the inmate's neck. Due to Detention Officer Mock’s quick reaction and concern for the inmate’s safety, he was able to prevent the inmate from causing further injury or successfully ending his life.
