On May 31, 2015, Sergeant Merritt, Detention Officer Gilroy and Detention Officer Clarke were assigned to B Team Special Response Team.

An inmate suicide attempt was called via radio. They responded immediately and found the inmate lying on the bed and a large pool of blood on the cell floor. The officers immediately applied pressure with a towel to the wound on the neck until EMS arrived. Due to their quick actions, officers prevented the inmate from taking his own life.

On June 25, 2015 Detention Officer Elliott was assigned to the facilities Special Management and Housing Unit. Officers assigned to this area are chosen for their ability to deescalate volatile inmates and the ability to respond quickly and calmly to dangerous situations.

While performing a security tour and collecting shaving razors, Detention Officer Elliott noticed an inmate had blood around his sink. Detention Officer Elliott immediately instructed the inmate to relinquish the razor. The inmate had cut his wrist in multiple places causing extensive damage. Detention Officer Elliott promptly secured the razor, called for assistance and made entry into the cell to render first aid until medical staff arrived. Detention Officer Elliott’s quick and calm response prevented the inmate from causing further harm and assisted medical staff in stabilizing the inmate. Detention Officer Elliott’s actions prevented the inmate from taking his own life.
