On August 15, while conducting a security round in 8D dormitory, Detention Officer Coppola was made aware that an inmate had swallowed a “spork." The facility’s charge nurse was immediately called in reference to an attempted suicide. The inmate was transported to the hospital and treated. Due to Detention Officer Coppola’s immediate actions, the inmate was spared possible serious internal injury.
On August 16, while conducting a security round in 8D dormitory, Detention Officer Hernandez observed an inmate swallow a large chunk of cement flooring. The facility’s charge nurse was immediately called to respond. The inmate was transported to the hospital and treated. Due to Officer Hernandez’s immediate actions, the inmate was spared possible serious internal injury.
Both officers exhibit an outstanding work ethic, attention to detail and ability to handle situations that arise in their area. Detention Officers Coppola and Hernandez are assets to the Law Enforcement Detention Center and the Office of the Sheriff.
