On June 15, 2016 Cpl. Hampton was advised by a citizen that her cell phone was missing from the courtroom. She had left it on a bench for a few moments, and when she returned found it missing. Corporal Hampton initiated an investigation and in cooperation with personnel from Allied Barton Security, determined that another woman in the courtroom had picked up the phone and carried it out of the courtroom.

Corporal Hampton identified the suspect and interviewed her. The suspect took Corporal Hampton to a location across the street from the courthouse and retrieved the cell phone. Corporal Hampton then returned to the courtroom with the phone and the suspect. He returned the phone to the owner, who thanked Corporal Hampton for his efforts. The owner did not press charges against the suspect. Corporal Hampton’s efforts went above and beyond his assigned duties.
