On July 31st, deputies responded to an address where a subject had cut his wrist and made statements to family members regarding his death and law enforcement activity. The subject had access to firearms and was currently armed with the knife. Deputy King, Deputy Luffman, Deputy Rae and Deputy Sutton arrived on the scene and observed the subject in the driveway. The subject placed his right hand into the waistband of his shorts, covered the hand with his shirt and began challenging deputies. The subject refused to obey commands made by the deputies.
Deputy Rae covered the subject with his rifle while Deputies Luffman, King and Sutton approached and flanked the subject with Tasers drawn. Deputy Sutton successfully deployed his TASER while Deputies Luffman and King safely took the subject into custody. Deputy King, Deputy Luffman, Deputy Rae and Deputy Sutton worked as a team to deescalate a potentially violent situation, using the least amount of force necessary. Each of the deputies showed immense restraint and their actions reflect positively on the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
