On December 04, 2016, while performing duties in Dormitory 8D, Detention Officer Gorry observed an inmate attempting to hang himself with a bed sheet. Detention Officer Gorry immediately announced “Code Orange" and signaled for the Control Room Officer to open the cell door. Detention Officer Gorry removed the sheet from the inmate’s neck as Detention Officers Richardson and Jarvis placed him in handcuffs.
Medical staff responded to treat the inmate, finding only minor irritation to his neck. Detention Officer Gorry's quick thinking and prompt response prevented the inmate from dying. Detention Officer Gorry is an asset to the Office of the Sheriff and an example of selfless dedication in the performance of his duties.
