In a moment of crisis, an inmate was attempting to harm himself and this group of officers (Officer Middleton, Officer Elliott, Officer Shortt, and Sgt. J. Brown) prevented the inmate from being successful. Three of the officers physically lifted him from harm on the upper mezzanine level in the housing unit, while another officer stood below in case he fell. The due diligence of this group of officers and their combined years of experience prevented a tragedy from occurring. The intervention of this group of officers, Special Response Team members, the medical personnel, and the mental health staff prevented a crisis in the administrative segregation housing unit. Officer Middleton, Sgt. Brown, Officer Elliott, and Officer Shortt should be acknowledged for their teamwork, communication skills, empathy, and the dangerous job they do daily to protect others. Their rapid response and quick action prevented any severe injuries from occurring.
