Officer N. Viera has been employed with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office since September of 2021 and is currently assigned to the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center. On September 8, 2022, while working the intake housing unit, Officer Viera responded to a cell where a resident had activated the emergency call button. Officer Viera found the resident face down on the floor appearing to be having a seizure. Officer Viera immediately notified medical while attempting to get the resident to respond. Officer Viera retrieve the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Narcan which were both used on the resident. The resident did not become responsive until a second dose of Narcan was administered. While conducting a security tour in a general housing unit during Officer Viera’s next shift, he noticed that a resident in a cell sounded like he was wheezing as he was laying on his bunk. Officer Viera attempted to gain the resident’s attention by knocking on his cell. Officer Viera realized the resident was in medical distress and immediately notified medical while he helped the resident. Once assistance arrived, Officer Viera retrieved both the AED and Narcan. After the Narcan was administered, the resident became responsive. Due to Officer Viera being attentive and following his training each time he reports for duty, two (2) lives were saved. Officer Viera deserves to be acknowledged as the Detention Staff Member of the Month for September 2022.
