December Enforcement Staff Members of the Month

On December 16, 2023, patrol units Corporal J. Cundiff, Deputy M. Marso, Deputy M. Hamilton, Deputy S. Trzeciak, and Deputy W. Barmer responded to a critical incident involving a reported suicide threat. Upon arriving at the scene, it was reported that a male subject was inside the residence with a gun pointed to his head, threatening to take his own life. Despite the challenging circumstances and reports of gunshots, the patrol units, under the leadership of the on-scene supervisor, demonstrated remarkable composure and courage. The on-scene supervisor made critical decisions based on the evolving situation, including the determination to approach the residence and check the welfare of the subject. The patrol units made attempts to establish contact with the subject using a telephone while maintaining communication with family members and effectively relayed information. Deputies armed themselves appropriately and, under the cover of a ballistic shield, approached the residence with caution, demonstrating tactical proficiency and adherence to safety protocols. The patrol units strategically positioned themselves around the residence, maintaining containment while keeping a calm demeanor in the face of potential danger. The quick response to deploy a drone for surveillance showcased adaptability and resourcefulness. The on-scene supervisor successfully negotiated face-to-face with the subject, preventing harm to himself or others. Throughout the incident, the patrol units responded without hesitation, following instructions promptly and maintaining professionalism under stressful circumstances. Their collective efforts ensured a successful resolution to a potentially life-threatening situation. Their dedication to duty, effective communication, and tactical proficiency exemplify the highest standards of law enforcement service.
