In recognition of their extraordinary dedication and quick thinking, we are proud to announce Ms. H. Epperson and Mr. J. Knight as the Civilian Staff Members of the month for March 2024 at the FCSO.
On March 12, 2024, the FCSO received a call for a Welfare Check concerning an individual in distress. The individual, struggling with thoughts of suicide following a difficult breakup, had attempted to purchase a handgun. A patrol supervisor engaged in an hours-long conversation with the individual, ultimately persuading her to agree to meet at a predetermined location.
However, when it became apparent that the individual would not show up at the agreed-upon location, Ms. Epperson and Mr. Knight sprang into action. Ms. Epperson, without any direct instruction, conducted a search within the vicinity where the individual's phone had last pinged. Through her resourcefulness, she located a gun store in a neighboring county. Mr. Knight immediately contacted the store owner, advising him not to sell a firearm to the individual and to delay the process until law enforcement could intervene. Thanks to their swift and proactive efforts, the individual was safely located in the store's parking lot and subsequently agreed to seek medical assistance for her mental health.
Ms. Epperson and Mr. Knight's exemplary performance and willingness to go beyond the call of duty undoubtedly prevented a potential tragedy and saved a life. Their commitment to serving and protecting our community is truly commendable and reflects the highest values of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. Please join us in congratulating Ms. Epperson and Mr. Knight for their outstanding service and dedication.
