On 06-24-2024, Sergeant J. Pittman demonstrated exceptional valor and dedication while working an off-duty construction detail. Upon learning of an approaching vehicle chase, Sergeant Pittman took swift action to ensure the safety of the construction crew. Despite the imminent danger, he bravely exited his patrol vehicle and began directing the construction workers to a place of safety, prioritizing their well-being above his own. As the situation intensified with the suspect vehicle unexpectedly turning back towards the construction site, Sergeant Pittman fearlessly placed himself at the forefront once again. Despite the escalating threat, he guided the construction crew to safety for the second time. Tragically, during the suspect vehicle's passage through the site, Sergeant Pittman was struck, sustaining severe injuries that required extensive surgery and recovery. Sergeant Pittman's unwavering courage and decisive actions undoubtedly saved multiple lives that night. His quick thinking and selfless dedication to duty in the face of danger epitomize the highest standards of law enforcement. His sacrifice and bravery serve as a testament to his character and commitment to protecting the community. Sergeant Pittman’s exemplary conduct under extreme circumstances exemplifies the core values of our agency.
On June 21, 2024, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies received a call for service regarding a reported Domestic Incident with Weapons. Upon arrival, it was found that the reporting party claimed his son had pointed a gun at him and thereafter retreated inside his residence. It should be noted that this residence has been the subject of narcotics search warrants in the past, as well as a recent Tactical/High-Risk Apprehension Team warrant service a few days prior. FCSO deputies surrounded the residence, initiated callouts, and gained control of all subjects inside and outside of the residence without incident. The handgun in question was not located, presumably still inside the residence. The male subject was a convicted felon, making the possession of the handgun a felony offense. FCSO Deputy M. Shelton, realizing that a search warrant was the next legal form of action, approached his supervision and volunteered to take primary responsibility for the search warrant. This search warrant was extensive, as the scope also included stolen property, four outbuildings, and every vehicle on the property. Deputy Shelton was made aware of the workload associated with this search warrant and still insisted on taking on this additional duty. Deputy Shelton successfully completed the search warrant, got it approved through the Criminal Investigations Section supervision, and executed it on the residence. This was the first search warrant of this magnitude that Deputy Shelton had executed. During the search, trafficking amounts of Fentanyl and Cocaine, assorted prescription medications, mushrooms, drug paraphernalia, a handgun, and over $1,000 in cash were located. Deputy Shelton made two felony arrests based on the findings of this search warrant. Additionally, Deputy Shelton obtained an additional search warrant for a cell phone belonging to the primary offender in the above search warrant. These actions go above and beyond the normal workloads and expectations of a Patrol Deputy. Deputy Shelton demonstrates dedication not only to the citizens of Forsyth County but also to completing investigations in their entirety and not turning a blind eye to potential narcotics investigations.
